Press-on nails

Press-ons are ready-made nails, usually plastic, that you put on yourself with glue or sticky tabs. No lamp, no salon chair.

Glue or tabs

Glue holds better. Tabs are convenient and mess-free but may not hold as well, according to Grazia’s tested guide.

How long press-on nails last

Who What Wear says up to two weeks. Grazia’s testers found around five to seven days, with glue often stretching to a week. Expect a range, not a promise.

How to remove press-on nails

Who What Wear’s advice is to soak them off in acetone and follow with cuticle oil.

Easy on your nails?

One celebrity manicurist told Who What Wear that press-ons really do protect the natural nail, because there is no drilling or filing. That is her opinion.

Custom sets made by nail techs

Nails Magazine reported in 2020 that many nail techs were making their own press-ons. One sold hers through a salon and on Etsy, made with products like gel polish and crystals, and put a prep kit and removal instructions in each reusable set.

Brands you will see
