Tie Dye Nails
Tie dye nails borrow the bright, blended color of a tie dye T-shirt. This gallery shows finished tie dye manicures you can copy at home.
The grid features Fan Brush Tie Dye, a quick summery design made by sweeping three bright shades over a base color with a fan brush.

Tie dye nail ideas
Tie dye on nails is all about bands of saturated color that blur into each other. Unlike precise nail art, a little unpredictability is part of the charm, which makes it a forgiving design to try.
- Fan brush: paint a light base, then sweep a fan brush lightly loaded with each color across the nail, one shade at a time.
- Water marble: drop rings of bright polish onto water and swirl them for a spiral tie dye effect. See finished examples in water marble nails.
- Sponge: paint stripes of color side by side on a makeup sponge and dab it onto the nail, the same way a gradient is made. Ideas are in ombre nails.
Colors that work
Classic tie dye uses a rainbow of warm and cool shades, such as orange, pink, green and blue. Start with a light base so the colors stay bright; neons in particular look stronger over white, and neon nails has more bright combinations. Finish with a glossy top coat to smooth out the brush texture, and preview your base color first with try it on.
