Whenever I start brainstorming to come up with a new nail art design I always try to focus on simplicity. This is important to me as a nail artist for two main reasons.
1st: I want my designs to be copied and shared. If the design is too complicated and hard to do, then not very many people will do it on their own nails. Keeping nail art simple and extremely cute is a goal of mine.
2nd: Fingernails are one of the smallest mediums for art. Other artists have much bigger mediums to work with and because of that they can go into much more detail with their artwork. However with nail art it is usually best to keep it simple because of the lack of space.
With this elephant nail art design I kept simplicity in the forefront of my mind. I am glad I did because elephants are huge. They are one of the biggest animals on the planet and there is no way I could possibly paint an entire elephant in its fullness and detail on a set of nails, so I kept it simple and I love how it turned out. I hope to see it copied, shared, and enjoyed by many. For me, this elephant nail design is a great addition to my animal nail art collection!
Fun Facts About Elephants
I thought I would add some extra fun information in this nail art post by sharing just why elephants are some of the most amazing animals on the planet!
Did you know that elephants are pregnant for 22 months? Elephants are pregnant for a longer period of time than any other land animal. I just had a baby a little less than 1 year ago and I couldn't imagine being pregnant for another 13 months! I would still be pregnant, yikes. :( This is my first reason why I think elephants are amazing! :)
Elephants sleep standing up. Why? Because they don't need to lay down. Elephants have such strong legs that they can support themselves even while sleeping. An Elephant's amazing strength is another reason that this animal is awesome!
Elephants really love each other. Did you know that elephants are so emotionally attached to each other that they have death rituals? For example, if an elephant is dying the herd will recognize that and try to help them get better or make their suffering less painful. When an elephant dies in a herd the herd will actually bury the elephant by digging up dirt and covering the elephant. I don't think they cover the elephant entirely though.
They have also been known to go into depression after a death of an elephant in the herd. Another ritual they have is to morne the loss of the dead friend by going silent. This, to me, is the third reason why elephants are so great. They care for each other!
Elephants are artistic. I can definitely appreciate this reason for why elephants are so amazing. Some elephants have been taught to use a paint brush and actually paint. I would love to have a painting in my house done by an elephant!
I hope you enjoyed this nail art post. I really enjoyed creating these elephant nails for all of you and I enjoyed learning some facts about elephants that I didn't know before. Elephants truly are amazing animals and they are a lot of fun to have on your nails! If you know some more fun facts about elephants that I didn't mention here, please do share them with me through the comment form below.

I really love all your designs 🙂 thanks for making them easy to do!!
I was just wondering, does applying a base coat really help your nail polish stay on longer? My sister-in-law told me that it helps, but I haven’t really done an experiment to see if it really is better. Any advice from anybody who knows anything about that would be greatly appreciated. 😀
Thank you so much for sharing your nail art tutorials. You make it look so easy. In a few minutes I am going to try the puzzle design. I am excited to see more of your videos.
You are welcome! I had such an enjoyable time learning new things about elephants. Afterward I shared the facts with my cousin and husband in excitement. We even watched the elephants honoring their loved dead in some youtube videos. Elephants really are so compassionate and amazing!

Yes it does and it helps protect your nail. There are a lot of different base coats out there and some are better than others.
