I know that not everyone who visits Polishpedia believes in Christ. Although I am a firm believer in Christ, I also respect your choice if it is one of not believing in Him. I however wish to share a little bit about the meaning of the Holly and how it relates to the meaning of Christ-mas.

Whenever I think of Christmas, my mind races through so many various aspects of it. It is truly a holiday that has so much meaning and all that meaning is often wrapped up in symbols. So is the case with the Holly.

A Sacred Symbol

The Holly was actually a sacred symbol hundreds of years ago by christians and non christians, even before the time that it was used during Christmas. It was was adopted into the Christmas festivities by hanging it on the door. It was meant to protect against persecution. In fact during the holiday seasons it was used even more frequently because it was thought to protect against ghosts that were out and about during the festivities. Later on however it took on the much more real meaning of Christmas. It became a symbol of Christ.

A Symbol of Love

The Holly is adorned with thorny leaves. They represent the thorns placed on Jesus Christ's head during his crucifixion. The red berries of the Holly represent the blood that ran from him for every one of us. So it truly is a symbol of love; a symbol of the perfect love of our Savior Jesus Christ.

Love One Another

Now whether or not one believes in Christ it does not change the fact that this holiday is more than presents and gifts. It is a time to remember who millions refer to as God himself, as a friend, and as a Savior. These symbols on Christmas are here to help remind us that life is about loving each other and being our brother's keeper always. I hope that my simple Christmas holly nail art design will help everyone feel the Christmas spirit a little bit more this season.
