    Shellac is not porous. The only thing it’s designed to be porous too is the shellac remover solution. If you have CND Shellac Polish on your nails and you wipe them with acetone, it will not be removed. Several companies offer home UV lamps. Be careful when using them, they may not dry the CND Shellac polish correctly. This product has it’s own UV LAMP, and it’s a professional product, not for at home use. Gel polishes are a home use product, and are in no way the same thing as Shellac. In fact, the word gel is not found anywhere on a bottle of Shellac. Remember, there is a major difference! Shellac will never cause nails to turn yellow. And will not damage nails either. Please use the Solar Oil that’s given free when CND Shellac is applied by a Licensed and Certified Shellac Professional. Solar Oil by CND, nourishes the nail thru the skin, not the nail. It hydrates the skin cells by three levels. It contains four essential oils. Removal of Shellac is never soaked in a bowl of acetone, never scraped off w metal. Only wrapped in special solution the gently dissolves Shellac’s layers are release from nails.

      Ash,

      Where did you get your shellac done? If you are having any problem with the shellac, it is almost always because the nail technician is not doing it correctly. Proper training is needed to apply shellac.

    I went to have a shellac manicure today and the salon tech doing my nails has been using shellac for some time now and was trained in the procedure (I asked!!) After applying the dehydrator to my nails, she did the base coat of clear shellac. She noticed right away that the Polish was leaving a space between my nail and my cuticle on both sides of the polish as she was applying it correctly without coming all the way over to myskin. Unfortunately the Polish would not spread over to the sides it made almost a “canal” type space between the Polish and my skin. The Polish was much higher than my nail bed. Unfortunately we did go through the entire procedure just to finish with a result looking like I had done a really lousy job! We then started over using more dehydrator to see if the polish would spread over more and it didn’t work. I have noticed the space before when I’ve had my nails done but just not to the extent it was today. Knowing that she was not supposed to go all the way over to my skin, I updated for a regular nail polish manicure hoping it would last longer damn the shellac usually does for me. Unfortunately every shellac manicure I’ve had peels off within 2 to 3 days, literally lifts and PEELS off in one layer. I have had other so whack text tell me that my nails must be extremely oily so it doesn’t adhere to my nails correctly. Is there any other suggestions you might have as to how to get it to bond to my nail better?? I really love the thought of a manicure lasting me 2 weeks especially where I’m a nurse and I use my hands a lot! Thank you in advance for any help you can provide…. and I am positive it’s not the nail technicians problem or fault as I have been through this with more than 5 different techs at 5 different places as this same issue keeps happening…. it just so happens that THIS tech picked up on the issue that is happening everytime (the “space” between the polishing my nails in the Polish not spreading correctly).

      She was just learning and had her checklist with her, making sure to do every step correctly. I don’t think the polish stayed on the tips of my nails properly. She put it on and the clear stuff too, but it’s not on my nails now.

      I am a CND Education Ambassador. Immediate peeling away or no coverage on the nail, is usually an issue of prep or not using CND Shellac as a system. Often not using CND Scrub Fresh as the dehydrator, or using a lamp other than the CND UV Lamp prevents proper curing. It could also come from the bottles not being shaken during the process. There are solvents and pigments in each bottle that need to be mixed thoroughly in order to have the correct formula for adhesion. Inside the bottle its like water and oil separating. I work in a salon and provide services for stylists whose hands are in water all day with enjoying the at least 14day wear. Of course no one can say specifically if it is the technician, however there are very meticulous steps to ensure maximum results. Sorry about your experience. What area are you located? I would like to see if there is an educator in your area.

    My first shellac/gel manicure lasted 3 weeks and I was thrilled, the second time one of my nails split off at the top almost to the quick. I had my third manicure a week and a half ago and four of my nails have broken off. I now have to cut them all and I’ll just get a regular manicure in future.

      The same exact thing happened to me! Right now my nails are either chipped or broken with shellac! So no more shellac!

    hi samantha, yes shellac does not react well in direct sun its best to keep it away from hot tempretures as the shellac polish goes a gooy consistancy and is hard to work with e.g.

    * not working as well in the uv light
    * longer to dry
    * not that nice shine after your done

    i would advise to do your nails before you go on holliday and that way you have no problems x hope this helped x
