About These Nails

It's officially been Summer for several days now and, boy oh boy, can we feel it here in Michigan. It's hot and ridiculously humid! One thing that this weather makes me want to do is play with neon nail polish like crazy.

I went out today and grabbed a few more neon polishes by Funky Fingers. As soon as I could, I sat down and got to work. I thought a neon water spotted manicure would be a fun Summer-appropriate look. I started with a base of NYC French White Tip. Neons (especially yellows) can be very thin, sheer, and streaky. A white base helps the polish pop and minimizes the amount of coats you need for full opacity. Over the white, I did two coats of Funky Fingers Highlighter. Wow, is this yellow ever bright! It really looks like I colored my nails with a yellow highlighter. I did the water spotting in Funky Fingers Atomic Poppy. Now, neonsĀ  tend to dry to a fairly matte finish so I slapped on some Seche Vite for a glassy shine.

This look is so bright, I can't help but smile when I look at it. Even my husband thought it was, "Awesome!"

If you've never done a, Jocelyn has a great water spotted nails tutorial right here at Polishpedia! If the mess scares you, I minimize the problem by taping around my nails with scotch tape before I dip them into the water. Then, just peel the tape off and you have a much smaller cleanup!
